Chain of Lakes cottages and rural outbuildings
Williamsburg is an unincorporated community in Whitewater Township, strung along M-72 and home to Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel. North of town, Elk Lake Road runs up toward Whitewater Township Park and the Elk Lake shore, where year-round homes and cottages share the Chain of Lakes with Lake Skegemog next door.
Away from the lakes the township is rural, with wooded parcels, small farms and homes with a pole barn or detached shop. Those outbuildings are where oversize and pole barn doors come in, and where an old door with rusted hardware tends to hang on longer than it should.
Doors on lake properties that sit closed through the off season can come back in spring with stiff rollers, cracked seals or a spring that broke over the winter. A maintenance visit covers the door, the hardware and the opener before the summer rush on the lake.
