Around Interlochen
Lake cottages and wooded year-round homes between two lakes
Interlochen sits on the isthmus between Green Lake and Duck Lake, with Interlochen State Park at the south end and Interlochen Center for the Arts just beside it. Around the lakes you find cottages and lake homes, and many of their garages are small detached buildings that double as storage for boats and gear.
Back from the water, along US-31 and the roads through Green Lake Township, homes sit on wooded lots with room for larger garages and outbuildings. Tree cover can keep drifting down, but shade also keeps snow and ice sitting against a door well into spring.
Being inland means colder nights than the bay shore, and cold is hard on garage door hardware. Grease thickens, rubber seals stiffen and a door that moved easily in October can drag in January. A tune-up before winter, with fresh lubrication and a seal check, keeps it moving.
