Village homes and Chain of Lakes cottages
Elk Rapids is the largest village in Antrim County, bounded by the bay to the west, Elk Lake to the east and Bass Lake to the north, with the Elk River running through town. The village has a stock of older homes on compact lots, and their garages are often detached and on the small side.
Around Elk Lake, and up the Chain toward Torch Lake, cottages and lake houses line the shore, many of them used seasonally. Those garages sit closed for months, often with a boat or trailer inside, and a door that has not been opened since fall deserves a careful look before it goes back to work.
Wind off the bay on one side and Elk Lake on the other means drifting snow and hard cold in winter. A tight bottom seal and good side and top weatherstripping keep it out, and replacing worn seals is one of the most straightforward jobs we do.
