Around Leland
Lakeshore cottages and summer homes
Leland sits on a strip of land between Lake Michigan and the north end of Lake Leelanau, with the Leland River and historic Fishtown at the center of the village. There is little shelter from the big lake here. Wind off Lake Michigan brings snow, cold and damp air right at homes near the shore, and the hardware on a garage door feels all of it.
Much of Leland is seasonal. Cottages and summer homes sit closed through the winter and open back up in late spring, and a garage door that has not moved since fall can come back with rusty hinges, stiff rollers, a cracked bottom seal or a broken spring.
Garage screens are worth a look on a summer place. A Lifestyle Screens system turns the garage opening into a screened space for the warm months and retracts out of the way when you need the door.
